Silver Chase Farm (SCF) is not a typical boarding facility. It is a private farm, designed and built to fulfill the needs of riding, training, preparing, and caring for our own hunters and jumpers, and for sharing with just a handful of discerning horse owners.
A BIT OF HISTORY
In December of 2003, we purchased what now is Silver
Chase Farm. At that time, the 26-acre property had a house, a six-stall
barn, a 50' x 60' building (used by the previous owners as an indoor
arena), and several very large pastures, one with a run-in shed.
We immediately upgraded the six-stall barn, including leveling the
stalls and installing interlocking rubber stall mats, and updated
the tack room by adding saddle, bridle, and blanket racks, cabinets,
and a countertop. This barn is slated to undergo a full renovation
in 2008, and will house only our horses until the remodel is completed.
In 2004, we began planning our ultimate facility and, in July of 2005, completed the first major addition: our 150' x 225' outdoor arena. After extensive research into footing surfaces, we decided to gamble a bit by creating our own blend of materials for the outdoor ring footing. The result was a relatively low-dust, supportive yet cushioning surface with just the right amount of "give." (The gamble paid off so well that we used a similar blend in our new indoor arena.) Also in 2005, we implemented Phase I of our fencing plan: sectioning one of the large back fields into several smaller pastures.
July, 2006 brought the groundbreaking for our new barn and indoor arena, rounding out over 2 years of planning and tweaking to get the design "just right." Then finally, in April of 2007, our dream was nearly complete when construction wrapped up on this latest addition to Silver Chase Farm. Concurrent with the barn construction, Phase II of our fencing plan began, providing us even more flexibility for turnout and field rotation. We also added automatic, freeze-free field waterers to every pasture, and converted the 50' x 60' building into our equipment barn.
SCF TODAY
While we're always working on improvements, the
majority of our plans have been completed, and we're open for business.
Our ten turnout pastures vary in size from a half-acre to over
five acres. Two are designed for up to 4 horses, eight are designed
for no more than two horses each. Eight of the ten fields have run-in
sheds, and at least two fields are resting at all times. Please visit
the Our
Facility page
for a list of other farm features and amenities, or our
Gallery page for a small sampling of
photos.
If you're interested in keeping a horse (or horses) at SCF, please contact us to set up a visit. You've just gotta see it to believe it!
